My Castle Built from Ruins

Chuck Wildbeari

Somewhere within this badger’s heart
You’ll find the owl’s vision and the fire’s spark
Somewhere within this bear’s grumpy growl
you’ll find the gentle deer and the lone wolf’s howl
For my veins like raging rivers
My heart’s like the ocean pounding the shore
And I’m in my leaky boat
With my strong, strong oars
It’s like to hold myself, here now upon my breast
To suckle and nourish my being with every breath
For somewhere within my weakest time
I find this milk to reach my shrine
And learn of the balance in this time
For somewhere within coyote’s call
I left the path stumbled to fall
Yet somewhere within me the fire burns
the path is found, the lessons learned
I see the Eagle flying and whales return
As I always have before
And I knocked upon the open door
Somewhere within these chambered rooms
I’m finding the strength to heal these wounds
To find myself content within my womb
In my castle built from ruins.
